Switched on HV again (Helge)
- 13 Feb 2006
HV and filaments off again, HV fuse gone. Running on A300.
- 21 Feb 2006
Started making regular B_H soundings, which are like B_G but produced
from BPG soundings by Bill Wright's Pretec/DSND software with MTR's
modifications.
- 22 Feb 2006
Installed NETBEUI protocol on Heatwave so that DYNPC can write
soundings directly to Heatwave instead of Dynamite.
- 09 Mar 2006
First ski tour of inspection of the receiving antennas.
Official snow depth in Tromso is 42 cm. Antennas are all at
least 1 ski-pole above the snow.
The south half-dipole of the inner s antenna was disconnected.
The wire broke at the preamp end because the dipole half was
hanging too low. The top guy had been improved by Knut in November
2005, but it is not clear if the rope slipped or was it assembled
too low. Fixed height of dipole, raising it at least 10-15 cm,
and fixed wire.
Could this be the cause of the persistent sporadic echoes in the
1.5-2.0 section of the traces that appear to come from
NNW ?
- 18 May 2006
Since 15 May the HPTx is running again, having swapped
Y92238 with the original THU-0012 in V1 (lower left).
Today I noticed that the BPG soundings (BP_A.CFG) had
RSNDG=90 instead of 156 as in the B_G (btik17.cfg).
I changed it to 156, making the new BPGs ??? secs long instead
of 162 s. The size went from about 28 MB to 48 MB.
But local DSND complains now about 'Arrays Full'
so am decreasing RSNDG to 120 (from 156) making them
37 MB long and 216 s long.
Also noticed dynasonde interference on the VHF running rstar
since the HPTx is in action again. Try HPTX atten 7 dB from 6.
- 11 Dec 2006
Tour of maintenance of receiving dipoles. About 10 cm of hard snow.
Some of the dipole halves were sagging at one end.
s ant: north end of north half-dipole was raised about 40 cm at 12 UT.
S ant: north end (middle) of south half-dipole was raised 10 cm at 12:12 UT
Note that the height of the S dipole is 1.15 cm below the height of the s dipole,
assuming the s diple is horizontal. Measured by eye at S ant and height of eye above S dipole.
N ant: north end (middle) of south half-dipole raised by 12 cm at 12:41 UT
N ant: south end of northy half-dipole raised about 2 cm.
e ant: centre supports of each-half-dipole re-screwed into wood, height same.
- 22 Dec 2006
A power break at 21:36 UT on 22 Dec caused major problems.
The dynasonde did not start again until 29 Dec 2006, 11:42 UT.
In the c:\httpd\AMPLITUD.TXT file it seems that from this later time
on the W antenna had very weak signals. The preamp currents measured on
23 Feb 2007 were:
N 175.8 (179), E 176.5 (183), S 171.9 (178), W 265.3 (231), e 177.4 (182), s 129.1 (188) mA.
The values in brackets were measured by M Rose et al. on 22 Aug 2005.
Note that thw W value is very high and the s value very low compared to
the older values.
