Slopes (m) for low elevation experiments (VHF): ============================================================ Although it is not generally recommended to compare electron densities at different locations for calibration purposes, we do so here just to give an idea of the difference. For 30 deg elevation, most commonly used, this means for E-region comparisons the EISCAT volume is about 170km north of Tromso (assuming 100 km E-layer peak) and for F-region comparisons the EISCAT volume is about 350 km north of Tromso(assuming 200 km F-layer peak). m is the slope of the regression curve fitted to the scatter plot of EISCAT peak plasma frequency versus Dynasonde peak plasma frequency (foE or foF2). In the following dsnd and dyna refer to two different ways of getting foF2 from the Dynasonde soundings. Dyna was an early analysis using ui_cal MATLAB script developed at RAL. It was later superceded by the automatic analysis of the Dynasonde data using DSND software (developed by J. W. Wright and N. Zabotin) and calib_ne.m scripts by Ingemar Haggstrom. m<1 means ISR densities are less than Ionosonde densities. A magic_const of 1.0 is assumed unless otherwise stated.
